Traditional Bookbinding

We print and bind books by hand, following traditional methods that have changed remarkably little over the centuries. Each volume is sewn, shaped, covered, and finished individually, with careful attention given to its structure, materials, and proportions.

Working with fine papers, cloth, leather, hand-marbled papers, and other traditional covering materials, we create bindings for new works as well as preserving and restoring older volumes. Sewing, endpapers, boards, spines, and coverings are constructed by hand, allowing the binding to become an integral part of the book rather than simply a means of holding its pages together.

Whether commissioned as a singular object, a presentation volume, or a lasting home for a treasured text, each binding is made slowly and deliberately. The character of the materials is allowed to remain visible.
